2002 Prague Summit – Key Decisions
Prague, Czech Republic – 21–22 November 2002
At Prague, Allies accelerated transformation to address terrorism and new threats. They created the NATO Response Force (a high‑readiness, joint, deployable force) and the Prague Capabilities Commitment to close priority capability gaps (e.g., strategic airlift, CBRN defense, precision munitions, deployable C2). Allies also invited Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia to begin accession talks.
Key Outputs
- Establishment of the NATO Response Force (NRF) and Allied Command Transformation (ACT).
- Prague Capabilities Commitment to improve deployability, sustainability, and key enablers.
- Seven invitations for accession, paving the way for the 2004 enlargement.
